Electrical Engineering, Class of 2019

Founder at GreenTech Solutions

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

"KIAT not only gave me technical knowledge but also entrepreneurial skills. The research opportunities and mentorship I received were instrumental in helping me start my own renewable energy company."

During my final year at KIAT, I worked on a research project focused on improving solar panel efficiency in the varied climate conditions of Kyrgyzstan. This project sparked my interest in renewable energy solutions for rural areas. After graduation, with support from KIAT's business incubator, I founded GreenTech Solutions. Our company now provides affordable solar energy solutions to remote villages across Central Asia, improving the quality of life for thousands of people.

My interest in renewable energy began during a field trip to a rural village in my second year at KIAT. I saw firsthand how limited access to reliable electricity affected daily life and economic opportunities. This experience motivated me to focus my studies on sustainable energy solutions.

The Electrical Engineering program at KIAT provided me with a strong technical foundation, while elective courses in business and entrepreneurship gave me the skills needed to start and run a company. The university's emphasis on solving real-world problems through innovation aligned perfectly with my vision.

Professor Nurlan Asanov (no relation) was a key mentor who encouraged me to pursue my interest in solar energy. Under his guidance, I conducted research that eventually led to the development of our company's core technology – a solar panel system optimized for the extreme temperature variations common in Central Asia.

KIAT's business incubator provided crucial support during the early stages of GreenTech Solutions. They offered workspace, mentorship, and connections to potential investors. This support was instrumental in helping us transition from a student project to a viable business.

Today, GreenTech Solutions employs 15 people, including several KIAT graduates. We've installed solar systems in over 50 villages, providing clean, reliable energy to communities that previously had limited or no access to electricity. Our work has been recognized with several awards for innovation and social impact.

My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs at KIAT is to identify real problems that need solving and use your education to develop innovative solutions. The combination of technical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills you can gain at KIAT is powerful – use it to make a positive impact on society.
