Aizhan Tursunbekova

I was part of KIAT's first cohort of Data Science graduates. The program was challenging but incredibly rewarding. I particularly benefited from the university's partnership with international tech companies, which allowed me to intern at a leading AI research lab. This experience was crucial in helping me land my current role at Microsoft, where I work on machine learning models for natural language processing.

As a child growing up in a small town in Kyrgyzstan, I was always fascinated by mathematics and computers. When KIAT announced its new Data Science program, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to combine these interests. The program exceeded my expectations, offering courses in statistics, programming, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

One of the most valuable aspects of my education at KIAT was the emphasis on practical projects. In every course, we applied theoretical concepts to real-world problems, using actual datasets from various industries. This hands-on approach helped me develop the skills that employers value.

During my third year, I was selected for an internship at an AI research lab in Singapore, thanks to KIAT's international partnerships. This experience exposed me to cutting-edge research and a diverse team of professionals from around the world. It also helped me build a network that eventually led to my position at Microsoft.

At Microsoft, I work on natural language processing models that power various products and services. My work involves developing algorithms that help computers better understand and generate human language. It's exciting to see my contributions implemented in products used by millions of people globally.

I'm grateful for the foundation KIAT provided and the doors it opened for me. To current students, I would emphasize the importance of seeking opportunities beyond the classroom – participate in research projects, apply for internships, and build connections in the industry. These experiences complement your academic education and can lead to exciting career opportunities.
